10 things I do to keep my hair healthy

1) USE A WET BRUSH

Wet brushes have flexible bristles which means less mechanical breakage due to ripping/tugging on strands.

2) USE A MICROFIBER TOWEL

Unlike traditional bath towels, microfiber towels are more gentle on your hair and cause less friction.

3) USE SILK SCRUNCHIES

Silk is much more gentle, doesn’t absorb the oils in your hair (that it needs), and it also offers more slip causing fewer snags which means less breakge.

4) SLEEP ON SILK

Switching to a silk pillowcase (or using a silk sleep cap) is extremely beneficial for hair and skin. Sleeping on silk means less friction and less friction means less breakage. It also doesn’t absorb the natural oils that your hair and skin produce at night (again, that you need).

5) NEVER USE DRY SHAMPOO DAILY

Using dry shampoo daily can clog your follicles, interrupt your hair growth cycle, and contribute to an unhealthy scalp.

6) SHAMPOO 1-2X A WEEK

Shampooing daily strips our scalps of the natural oils that it produces which sends signals to your body telling it to produce more oil to make up for this (which is why people who have to wash every day have to wash every day). Going longer between washes allows your hair and scalp to benefit from the natural oils.

7) USE A SILICONE + WAX-FREE HEAT PROTECTANT AND USE LOW HEAT

Heat protectants that contain harmful waxes and silicones eventually lead to buildup on your hair and scalp which leads to hair damage and an unhealthy, imbalanced, scalp. When your hair is healthy, you don’t need to use heat above 350 degrees, do your hair a favor and turn the heat down when you style.

8) WASH AND RINSE WITH COLD WATER

Hot water can cause mechanical damage to hair and, on top of less damage, using cold water has additional benefits like less frizz and more shine.

9) OIL MY ENDS EVERY NIGHT

Just like skincare, having a nighttime haircare routine can completely change the game and it doesn’t have to be complicated! Every night I brush through my hair and add a drop of oil to my ends on each side to keep them strong and healthy.

10) USE PRODUCTS THAT FOCUS ON SCALP HEALTH

The KEY to healthy hair is having a healthy scalp, we have to care for it the same way (if not better than) we do our hair.
