my favorite video editing apps

Have you heard? Photos are out and video is in (on Instagram at least)! I’ve started diving into video recently and I’ve found some apps that I love using for it so I wanted to share them with you!

InShot

If I had to choose just one video editing app — it would be this. InShot allows you to split clips, control the speed, add music, add transitions, add effects, extract your video’s audio, add voiceover, and more. There’s a free and a paid version — I have the paid version (I think it’s like $20 a year) but I started with the free version and only upgraded when I started diving more into video and wanted more options. This app is basically the total package.

Tezza

This app adds creative flair to your videos. You can’t split clips or rearrange anything in this app, your video has to be ready to go when you import it, but you can add really fun filters, adjust the color, add cool effects, etc. I love adding her filters over my videos and I use the fx feature to add a vintage and filmy feel to or some stop motion effects to my videos.

Instagram

If I’m creating Instagram Reels, I typically just use Instagram itself. Open the Instagram app, swipe left and at the bottom of the screen you can choose Reels, then Instagram will allow you to add audio, effects, adjust the speed and length, and it has a timer. If you need to create more than one clip it’ll also allow you to align the two together. Typically it has everything I need to create a good 10-15 second reel!

That’s it! 99% of the videos I make I use my iPhone to shoot them and these apps to edit them. Once in a great while I’ll use iMovie on my computer if I’ve used the GoPro or my DSLR but typically that’s not the case.
