winter haircare

The winter haircare game is REAL. Cold, dry air is never fun for your hair. Don’t worry, though, I’m here to help you and your hair survive this season!

DON’T GO OUTSIDE WITH A WET HEAD

Please, please, PLEASE if you take anything away from this blog post, make it this. Your parents probably told you this a time or two and warned that you would catch a cold if you did, I’m warning you for different reasons. When your hair is wet, it’s stretched out, and instead of snapping back like a rubber band, it just snaps making wet hair weaker, more fragile, and more prone to damage than dry hair. A wet head + cold winter air = frozen hair and frozen hair causes breakage to already weakened hair. I know — it sounds cool to participate in the frozen hair challenge and see what kind of cool designs you can make and funny photos you can take but your hair will pay the ultimate price. Make sure you blow dry or get up earlier to allow your hair to fully air dry.

DON’T SLEEP WITH A WET HEAD

While we’re on the subject of wet hair, please don’t sleep with a wet head (no matter what the season). Not only does it increase the risk of breakage, but it also increases your risk of a fungal infection.

ADD MORE OIL TREATMENTS TO YOUR ROUTINE

Rejuveniqe Oil is going to help your hair and scalp through this dry season, if you find you’re feeling extra dry make it a priority and double or triple up on your treatments.

LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER

Use a leave-in conditioner! Make sure you’re giving your hair that drink of water it needs and incorporate a leave-in conditioner into your routine (preferably a silicone and wax-free one). This is my favorite leave-in conditioner and you can put it on wet or dry hair without weighing it down or making it feel greasy. I use it daily in the winter.

SWITCH UP YOUR ROUTINE

Your summer haircare routine might not be hydrating enough for the winter and you may have to switch it up. If your hair is feeling extra dry this season, try adding in some hydrating products. The Advanced Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner are two of my favorites for any hair type during the winter. It gives your hair that drink of water it so desperately needs without making it feel heavy (making it perfect for fine hair).

ADD A MASQUE

Masques are game changers for your hair. If you’re feeling dry, add in the Advanced Hydrating In-Shower Masque. Like the Advanced Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner Duo this gives you the perfect boost of hydration without making your hair feel heavy or greasy. It’s an extra boost of softness, shine, nourishment, and conditioning. It also helps to prevent breakage and it’s fast-acting (5 minutes) so even if you’re extremely busy, you still have time for it. I typically incorporate it every 2-3 washes but use it as you feel you need to!

STAY HYDRATED

It’s real simple: water. Water is literally the best thing for you, so go drink some and then drink some more. Increase your water intake. In general, your hair and skin (scalp) need hydration, but it’s especially important in the winter when the humidity is down and the air is dry.
