wedding wednesday: setting a wedding date

It’s Wedding Wednesday (that’s a thing right?)! I’m going to [try] to come on every Wednesday and talk about the different aspects of wedding planning. Everything from budget to the honeymoon and all the in betweens you don’t really think about unless you’re actually engaged and planning your day.

The first thing I’ll say I’ve learned about wedding planning is wanting to elope about 100 times a week is the new norm, it’s a struggle haha. Anyways, your first step is setting a date. You can’t book anything or anyone without having a wedding date. Seems simple right? You just pick one of the 365 days a year and call it good, right? Um no.

You’re literally picking one of the most important days of your life. Plus people usually want it on a Friday or Saturday (even though any other day of the week is a lot cheaper) so that narrows it down to only a handful of days.

Next you have to think season. Even though it seems easy there’s a lot more that goes with it other than just whatever season you favor. You need think about weather, the color schemes, if the venue will be open around that time, where you’ll take your photos, etc. If your dream venue is only open May-September but you’ve always dreamed of a winter wedding then something’s gotta give, if your dream wedding colors are pastel pink and mint green that probably wouldn’t look the best in an October setting, and some photographers won’t even shoot in the winter (crazy)! So basically what I’m saying is it’s a little more than just shuffling through a calendar and putting your finger on a random date (although that could be fun if you like a challenge?).

Just remember that this is your day. You can break all the traditional date setting rules. You can get married whenever you want. You do what you want! So if you want an outdoor winter wedding on a Wednesday then you do it! Or a June church wedding on a Saturday works too. The only people that matter when choosing this day are you and your future husband/wife.

Thankfully this part of wedding planning was easy for us. We have always wanted to get married in the fall. It’s our favorite season, we both agree summer is way too hot and fall weather is literally perfect, we love fall colors, food, and decor, and the venues we wanted were open around that time as well so that worked out well. We are getting down to that one year mark, any guesses what day we chose?
