family trip to Florida

We went to Florida! A few years ago I decided that instead of presents (that would eventually get boring and be thrown away) for my Godson I wanted to do a memorable experience. So I started putting money that I would have spent on presents into an account for a vacation. He had been obsessed with Mickey for as long as I could remember and that’s why I decided to do Disney. I wanted to wait until he was old enough to remember but young enough to see the magic so we had originally planned to go last year (but we all know about last year…) and we ended up pushing it to this year. It was so much fun.

The first few days were dedicated to spending time in the pool and I think it was Owen’s favorite part. We stayed at the Liki Tiki resort and they had a cool little pool area with some waterslides that were just perfect for Owen. Even I had fun in the pool.

I’ve been to Florida a few times myself but I’ve never been on an airboat ride looking for alligators so we decided to make a day of that and it was so fun. We ended up seeing quite a few and we even got to hold one (which I can’t believe I actually did).

Tuesday was a beach day! My sister, her boyfriend, and my grandma went to Universal Studios while my mom, Owen, and I went to the beach. We decided to check out Clearwater Beach and it was the most beautiful day, but Owen didn’t like it — I’ve never met a kid who didn’t like the beach — he didn’t like the saltwater. We didn’t spend a lot of time there but the little time that we did get was fun (or at least I thought so).

Wednesday was the BIG day — DISNEY! We started our day at Animal Kingdom and ended it at the Magic Kingdom. This day was all about Owen. We waited in a few lines more than once because he wanted to ride the rides again, he got a few more toys than he probably should have (hey it’s vacation), and it was seriously one of the best days. I don’t have any kids of my own (and I don’t really know if I ever will) so seeing Disney through my nephew’s eyes was seriously magical. If you get a chance to take the littles in your life, I highly recommend it. Even though we were poured on multiple times, it was the best day and it was my favorite day.

The rest of our days were spent relaxing with the family by the pool. We had originally planned for another beach day but since Owen preferred the pool, we stayed by the pool.
