5 reasons why your curly hair is frizzy
Frizz is no fun, am I right? Although curly hair does tend to be naturally frizzy, frizz can also be caused by outside factors and minimizing these can help eliminate/reduce it!
1) YOU’RE USING A ROUGH TOWEL
Towels can cause frizz and breakage. If you’re using one, make sure it’s a microfiber towel (a cotton t-shirt is better, though). Also make sure that when you’re wrapping your hair in a towel, you’re not drying/rubbing your hair (like you would your body) with the towel. The less friction the better when it comes to frizz (and damage).
2) YOUR HAIR IS TOO DRY WHEN YOU APPLY PRODUCT
The wetter your hair the better your results! After you rinse your hair in the shower, don’t wring out the extra water, leave it sopping wet and try to apply product to your hair as soon as you can.
3) YOUR WATER ISN’T COLD ENOUGH WHEN YOU RINSE
Did you know that you’re supposed to rinse your hair with cold water? Yep, it seals up the cuticle and allows it to lay flat, whereas heat opens the cuticle. When your hair cuticle lays flat it locks in moisture and therefore locks out frizz.
4) YOUR SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER AREN’T MOISTURIZING OR HYDRATING ENOUGH
Curly/wavy hair tends to be on the drier side because the natural oils your scalp produces (that your scalp and hair need) can’t travel down the shaft as well as it can on straight hair. Adding a moisturizing and/or hydrating shampoo and conditioner can help to makeup for this.
5) YOUR SCALP IS UNHEALTHY
Unhealthy scalps can cause split ends, damage, build-up, and — you guessed it — frizz. A simple way to start focusing on scalp health is to use products that focus on scalp health. The number one product I always recommend for this is Rejuveniqe Oil.
“Rejuveniqe Oil is a multipurpose oil that combines a proprietary blend of 13+ natural plant and essential oils that enhances the healthy look of hair and skin and provides antioxidants known for their anti-aging properties.” — MONAT Global
Apply this to your hair and scalp the night before you wash your hair and allow it to marinate (I typically sleep in an oil treatment), wash out the next day!
You can have beautiful, soft, bouncy, and well-defined curls/waves!
