march motivation

If you live in the midwest then you know what March is like. You get a few nice days that make you think spring is finally coming and then a snowstorm hits and you get back into your winter slump. It's like the end is never coming (and sometimes it extends into April). THEN daylight savings comes into play and we lose an entire hour of sleep. I'm still falling behind, how can an hour make such a difference?

So here's a few things I do to keep my spirits up during the confusion that is March:

Find a new workout routine: it sounds stupid, but a change in your daily routine makes a huge difference. Even if you don't want to change your actual workout you can mix it up. Do leg day on Monday instead of Wednesday and Abs on Friday instead of Tuesday. Also mix up your workout playlist, play some upbeat music that sounds like spring to you. Oh and on the nice days work out outside! Feel that sunshine on yo face!

Start transitioning your wardrobe: bust out your spring colors, your capris, your dresses, your cute shoes, maybe even some open toed ones on the good days. Go shopping for new spring clothes too, get a new outfit with your favorite and most flattering spring color and wear it. New shoes never hurt anyone either.

Change your playlist: I know I already mentioned this for your workout but you want to change your regular playlist too. A few of my favorite songs that get me in the mood for spring/summer are: Wild at Heart - Gloriana, Where the Blacktop Ends - Keith Urban, Barefoot Blue Jean Night - Jake Owen, Beverly Hills - Weezer, Could Have Been Me - The Struts, Springsteen - Eric Church, I know these are super old songs but those are just a few of my favorites. A nice day driving around with the windows down and blasting your spring music is good for the soul.”

Change your makeup: start wearing lighter makeup or even less for more of a natural “reborn” feel because that’s what spring is right? I usually just go with mascara and a very light eye shadow (if any) when I start to get into a springy mood and I definitely pick up my favorite spring lip colors. A good lip makes my whole day.

Spend the nice days outside: you have to get out of the house. I don’t care how much spring cleaning you have to do, if it’s nice out go outside. Take a walk, sit on the porch, just stand out there and soak it in if you have to but do it. Some sun will do you well after the long winter and I can tel you that just standing in the sunshine will make you feel better.

These are just a few ways I try to get myself out of the winter slump and through the month of torture that is March. It’s super small but you’d be surprised how much it can change your mood and motivate you.
